John McEnroe backs Nadal to be seeded #4 for the Wimbledon Championship!

2013 Roland Garros Champion Rafael Nadal dropped a place to #5 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings a few weeks back despite of successfully defending the title at the French Open. This has led to his #5 seeding for this years SW19 which decides the seeding purely on the basis of rankings and the performance of the player on the grass surface.

"In my opinion there is no doubt he should be in the top four," said McEnroe to the ESPN via conference call.

“I don’t think anyone would be put out, whatsoever. Wimbledon is the only one of the four majors that can change the seedings. I don’t know how they do it exactly, apparently there’s some kind of formula, but clearly he should be one of the top four seeds in my book."

"If he ran into Ferrer in the quarter-finals it would be the same old, same old because Ferrer is used to running into one of the big four in the last eight. But if Nadal played Djokovic in the quarters, or possibly Murray or Federer, that would be a big difference, and absolutely wrong for that to happen, in my opinion," he further added.

The main draws will be out on Friday!
